Capito has challengers for congressional seat
By Kellen Henry, Staff Writer
Anne Barth may have officially entered the congressional race at the 11th hour, but prominent Democrats in the state were not tardy in endorsing her campaign.
Barth, of Kanawha County, said her pursuit of a seat as a U.S. Representative for West Virginia’s 2nd congressional district began before she filed on Jan. 26.
“I had considered running for congress for some time – for well over a year,” she said. “I’m running because I want to give the people in the 2nd district a voice in affairs in Washington.”
Barth’s campaign received the support of Senators Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, and U.S. Representatives Alan Mollohan and Nick Rahall, shortly after filing for the race.
Despite the endorsements of party leaders, Barth still has a competitive campaign race ahead of her before she could face the incumbent, Shelley Moore Capito (R-Kanawha), in November.
“We’re going to run a strong, vigorous campaign and get the information out to voters to make it a good competition,” she said.
