BARTH CAMPAIGN ‘ON TRACK’ AS
FUNDRAISING TOTALS RELEASED
- Democratic Nominee’s Campaign Reflects Main Street While
Opponent Takes From Wall Street-

CHARLESTON – With the fundraising totals for the Federal Election Commission’s second quarter now in, the Anne Barth for Congress campaign report shows very strong in-state contributions as mounting evidence of significant momentum for change in the Second Congressional District.

“Every facet of Anne Barth’s campaign continues to be on track. West Virginians are responding well to this opportunity to bring about the change people in the Second District need,” said Mark Ferrell, campaign spokesman.

The Anne Barth campaign raised $302,297 during the 2nd fundraising quarter that ended on June 30, for a total of $635,984 raised since filing to run on January 26th. The contributions are recorded with the FEC on a quarterly basis.  A portion of these receipts were reported to the FEC prior to the primary election, per federal law.

“That 82 percent of Anne Barth’s individual contributions to date come from in state demonstrates that the people of West Virginia are the real driving force behind her campaign’s growing momentum. Ultimately this race will be decided by the voters in West Virginia, not Shelley Moore Capito’s well-heeled political contributors in Washington.”

“As West Virginians know, people tend to judge you by the company you keep,” Ferrell said. “It’s worth noting from Mrs. Capito’s FEC report who she is keeping company with in Washington.”

According to the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) website, www.fec.gov, Shelley Moore Capito raised thousands of dollars from the likes of Exxon Mobil, Marathon Oil, Citigroup, and Countrywide Financial.

“These are very powerful and controversial special interest groups that have hiked up our gas prices and exploited working families,” Ferrell added.

“This campaign will not take money from Big Oil. Anne Barth will not take money from scandal-ridden Countrywide, which has led thousands of homeowners into foreclosure. Anne Barth’s candidacy is about representing the needs of West Virginians, not the desires of Wall Street and Washington. The people of the Second District want their congressional seat back,” Ferrell said.

Countrywide Financial, which has given thousands of dollars to Capito’s campaign this cycle, contributed mightily to the current housing crisis by driving people toward mortgages they could not afford. Countrywide is currently being sued by the states of Illinois and California for exploiting people’s desire to own their own home and then selling their mortgages on the secondary market for huge profits, leaving consumers hanging out to dry.

“It matters to West Virginians what kind of people you choose to connect yourself to in Washington,” Ferrell said.

Ferrell noted that the Barth campaign had an average donation of $57 from hundreds of “low dollar” in-state contributors this quarter, meaning that the donation was less than $200.
