ANNE BARTH CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN
TAPPING INTO STATEWIDE DESIRE FOR CHANGE
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—Evidence that the Anne Barth for Congress campaign is tapping into a statewide desire for change gained more credence on Thursday night when over 125 Monongalia County residents attended a fundraiser in downtown Morgantown aimed at helping send the former senior aide to Sen. Robert C. Byrd to Washington to represent West Virginians in the 2nd Congressional district.
"I have never seen a candidate come out of the gate stronger than Anne Barth has," observed Ned Rose, Barth campaign Chairman.
"It is remarkable how people across the entire state are responding to her message and her candidacy. West Virginians see that our domestic needs have been ignored by the current administration in Washington, and they recognize in Anne Barth an experienced public servant who can get better results for the middle class by working with our delegation and not against them."
While checks gathered at the event are still being tallied, the total raised for the event is expected to be over $20,000, a noteworthy amount considering Monongalia County is outside the candidate's congressional district.
"Working with Sen. Byrd for more than twenty years taught me a lot of things, but the most important was how to get results for West Virginia in Washington," said Anne Barth, the daughter of a retired United Methodist minister and mother of two daughters currently enrolled at WVU.
"The energy and excitement around this race that I have encountered in the 2nd District has been inspiring," Barth said.
"But to have this kind of support outside the district from people of all ages and backgrounds is very humbling. I know I am facing an enormous challenge against a well-entrenched incumbent, but I promise that no one is going to out-work me. I know what it takes to win and I know West Virginians are accustomed to challenges. Everything I have done in my career has led me to this unique opportunity to continue to serve the state and people I love and believe in, and I am making the most of it."
Barth cited fiscal responsibility, shoring up Medicare and Medicaid, protecting Social Security from privatization, easing the tax burden on working families and a focus on domestic needs like roads and infrastructure among her priorities.
"Like my mentor Sen. Byrd, I believe in building. I believe in protecting our Constitution and I believe that working families are the economic engine that drive our national economy and they are long overdue some relief."
