SEN. ROBERT C. BYRD HOSTS CAMPAIGN FUNDRAISER FOR
ANNE BARTH IN SHEPHERDSTOWN
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.,- West Virginia’s senior senator and staunch Anne Barth for Congress supporter, the venerable Sen. Robert C. Byrd, co-hosted a fundraiser for his former senior aide at a private home in Shepherdstown on Thursday.
“Anne Barth has been directly involved in helping me map out and implement a strategy for West Virginia’s most critical needs, like highways and bridges, rural health care facilities, veterans care and so many other issues vital to our seniors and working families,” Byrd told the group of about 75 gathered at a farm within sight of the Potomac River.
“Anne will always be an aggressive, irrepressible force for the people of West Virginia. She is a bight, bright light and she will electrify and inspire her colleagues in Washington on both sides of the aisle. I am very happy that the people of the Second District have an opportunity to put her considerable skills and talents to work for them. She shares the values of working West Virginians.”
Barth, a working mother of two college students, served on Senator Byrd’s staff for twenty-one years – his State Director since 1992 – before resigning in January to campaign to represent West Virginians in the Second Congressional District where she lives.
“I have learned so many things from my mentor, Sen. Byrd, but perhaps the most practical has been how to get things done for West Virginia in Washington,” Barth told the group.
Within hours of filing her candidacy papers at the state Capitol in Charleston, Barth received glowing endorsements for her campaign from Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Sen. Jay Rockefeller, Rep. Nick Rahall and Rep. Alan Mollohan.
