BUSH-CAPITO’S RECKLESS SPENDING LEAVES
WEST VIRGINIANS PICKING UP THE PIECES
- Capito Supported Bush Budgets That Take Money from Social Security-

Charleston, W.Va. – With the updated budget and economic projections released Tuesday by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Anne Barth for Congress campaign offered the following statement.

“George Bush and Shelley Moore Capito have left this nation with skyrocketing budget deficits for the next decade and it is more evidence that it is time that Mrs. Capito, George Bush and their reckless spending habits leave office together,” said Talley Sergent, spokesperson for the Anne Barth for Congress campaign.  “George Bush and Shelley Moore Capito acted irresponsibly when they ran up historic deficits during a time of war and economic uncertainty.  Fortunately for West Virginians, there is an end in sight – November 4.”

“In her eight years in office, Mrs. Capito has voted five times for five budgets that have produced the five worst deficits in the history of the nation.  That kind of record forfeits any claim to fiscal responsibility.”

According to the CBO:

  • The annual budget deficit more than doubled $161 billion in Fiscal Year 2007 to $407 billion in Fiscal Year 2008;
  • Deficits will exceed $400 billion for Fiscal Years 2008, 2009, and 2010;
  • The budget will remain in deficit through Fiscal Year 2018;
  • 10 years of Social Security surpluses totaling $2 trillion will have to be diverted into financing the annual deficits; and
  • The national debt will approach $10 trillion at the end of the year
